Henri Grünbauer - Guitar - Soap Opera Blues (Otis Clay Cover) - Blue Jeans & Black. I must admit at Times I watch TV constantly while practising my Guitar. However, I never watch Soap Opera's, I hate them! So I can relate to that with Otis Clay who wrote the Tune. The Band, again is Blue Jeans & Black. To add to the domestical atmosphere (we are watching TV) I try to imitate the sound of a singing teakettle in the solo at the end of the track.

Henri & Pauli - Pain (Grünbauer/Hoppe) ©2019. When I heard Pauli's drumming, I immediately realised it would match the riff I was working on! I also like the breaks at the turnarounds very much. The Lyric: Pain 1) In aid of electric current I got a lot of power When I was still a kid Steel cut my skin I had to do it, just to express myself To show the feeling, the mood I was in Why do I still hurt myself Am I in Pain What’s it worth What do I gain 2.) When we hit the road there was no time To figure out when to take a rest The music continued to make the words rhyme I had to make the fills, take the spots Why do I still hurt myself Am I in Pain What’s it worth What do I gain 3.) All in all I worked my fingers to the bone Two out of four I got no Gristle left The method’s to slide from note to note You’ll hear me doing that I was never so deft Why do I still hurt myself Am I in Pain What’s it worth What do I gain

After Hans had written a song for his daughter, he wanted to write one for all the children in the world. Since Hans writes on the guitar too, it is him on rhythm Guitar and vocals. The keyboard was recorded by me and is done in the interplay with Hans. The solo guitar is added in one take on a separate session.

All Blues (M. Davis) Kerozinekikkers 2004.This is a bootleg-quality recording, being fairly listenable. The original take was over 16 minutes, too long to upload to Youtube, so I made two edits to shorten the jam a bit to fit Youtube standards. The Kerozinekikkers would morph from a jazzband in 1999 to a pop-funk band as early as 2006. So it is quite amazing that they played a 16 minute Miles Davis work-out as late as 2004 (maybe even 2005 as the tapes were dated 2004/2005).

Make Your Move (De Bye-De Wilde-Grunbauer-Oelbers) Saint Vitus. This version of 'Make Your Move' comes from the 'Farewell Saint Vitus' tape and was truncated, like the "Eldorado' version. In this case, the first verse is missing and to reconstruct the original structure we changed the existing parts like this: verse two, verse three, instrumental bridge and then verse two again to get a lyric making some sense. In this version, original drummer and writer of the lyric Erik-Jan is replaced by Frits, who played several gigs as an stand-in when Erik-Jan had left the band.

Blue Hotel (Chis Isaak Cover) - Blue Jeans & Black 1992. This song stil has the spirit of the early 50s in it albeit originally released in 1986. I loved playing it in it's minor key and it's use of the tremolo dives. The solo I tried to keep in a traditional R'n'R -style. If i remember well. I used the little Vox Escort as a pre-amp to the AC 30, giving a somewhat fatter sound.

Fly Away Jam - The Abandoned Gas Plant 1988. This was definitively the lowest point of my musical life and my life in general as well. I was arrested four times during the period, for stealing a bottle of vintage Wine (and drinking it with some ‘friends’), for drug possession and not be able to prove I had borrowed the Bike I had with me from a good Friend, for trespassing and for hoboing from Utrecht to Amsterdam were I lived with Yasin, a Somalian Musician refugee. He had just fired me from his band for the umpteenth time. I had no Job, no money and several of my Guitars were stolen. It was Francis, a classical Guitarplayer gone electric who invited me and my Vox AC 30 to a Jamsession in this abandoned Gasplant in Utrecht on New Years Eve 1988. I knew half the musician who were there to Jam and there were some others. I forgave basin for firing me and asked him to come as well. Francis said we could eat and drink so that was something to look forward to. I took my one Telecaster to the venue as well which was packed with basically all white punks on dope, so to speak. Around midnight I spotted Hans, a Bassplayer I had seen and heard a few times at the sessions. However I had never played with him before. I said let’s find a drummer and You know Francis right? He said: don’t worry, You’re in, I have it all mapped out. Francis had his souped up Fender Champ and his wooden pick along with his Telecaster, there was a drumset, a Peavey Bassamp, Peavey vocal pillars and of course my Vox. Hans had indeed mapped out things. He came up with a bass player and a drummer i did not know and he was going to sing himself. So we jammed about half an hour around midnight and I thought it sounded terrible but the atmosphere was quite relaxed. The jam was supposed to be a country song in E and by sign of hand we got up to A and back (or something like that). I was bad. I didn’t remember anything afterwards when Yasin came to me and said: ‘I heard Your solo, man, You’re in my band again!’ I said ‘what solo? I didn’t play one!’ Some Guy gave me a tape of the evening which ended on the shelves of Nutking Records (formerly Bounty Records) And I had to find out what solo Yasin was referring to. It is here at 4:12 in the Video but it was really Ben and Rob starting this band Blue jeans and Black who dragged me out of the Swamp I was in at the time. Mind You, this Jam isn’t for sensible ears, I was really gone to the Dogs at this point in Time, You can hear them bark at Me.

I have added this bootleg quality recording as a bonus, De Kerozinekikkers started as a jazz-ensemble, then began to be recognised as a Jazz-fusion instrumental band developing a very funky sound and finally morphed into a top 40 cabaret-act. Touch (Outsiders Cover) - Blue Jeans & Black 1989. The original Wally Tax and the Outsiders single was released in 1966. Blue Jeans & Black apparently tried to upgrade the tune with some 10 years, making it sound like a 70s performance. Drummer Ben is clearly the driving force behind this (then) new arrangement. And, despite it is a one take just to remind us how we should've played it (I can't remember any occasion were we did it) It has quite some energetic atmosphere making up for the hit and miss moments of this recording.

Kriziz - Little Fridge (Bontan/Buis/Roosendaal) ©1991. This is the Studio-recording of this funny song, synced to the live-footage from their concert at the Free Floor on 25-01-1991. The Live audio was spoiled by some weird echo, making it unlistenable. The introduction and the applause at the end are from the actual concert. I doubt it wether the song was presented as an encore that night since it doesn't seem logical. In the recording of the full concert there seem signs, also in the audio that it is edited. The Lyric by the way, was written by the the 4 or 5 near old daughter of the singer. You can hear her in the a capella section at the end. Enjoy!

Bunch of Tunch (Grünbauer / van Basten) ©1994 ℗2018. This song was first distributed through their E- Magazine 'De Kerozinekrant' as an mp3 single by De Kerozinekikkers in 2002. It also appeared on their CD 'Kwaak'. However, the song was much older, written in 1994 by Hans van Basten (who came up with the bass-riff and the chords) and myself, who wrote the words and arranged the Guitar-parts. When I had posted the acoustic version, I think it was Stig, a native English speaker, who said he never heard of the word "Tunch". A quick google learns us the word does not officially exist. However, I am pretty sure I picked the word up from some obscure American soul-artist, who's name unfortunately slipped my memory.

One Of A Kind (Grünbauer / Khasim / Termaat) ©1995 ℗2018. One of a Kind was written for Sound Advice in 1995 as Quartet for Drums, Bass Guitar and Vocals. The song was, with a different bass-part to match the sound of the the group Sound Advice (1996) and again a different (acoustic) bass-part to match the sound of De Kerozinekikkers (1999), made suitable for their setlists. By the turn of the century the song was adapted to include parts for Violin and Flute. These parts were played by The Guitar-Twin in the all instrumental 2016 version. This new 2018 version has the original lyrics and only the short opening phrase done in twin mode. It also sports the energetic slap-bass part as per the 1995 version.

Substance Happy (Henri Grunbauer) ©2018 A song about addiction. It could happen to You. Another video of me handling instruments didn't appeal much to me. Neither did ripping video's of over- or underdosed people from internet. I don't think people in such state have much free will to agree publication of this footage. Since this song is a bonus track from the 'Black Hole' album, I decided to use the song as a promo. The Lyric is in the comments an speaks for itself. The album is available via my website: https://henrigrunbauer.wixsite.com/nutking

Lady Talk (Grünbauer / Termaat) ©2017. This is the hybrid electric/acoustic version of this song. This song was written in the late 90s and dedicated to Joes Kloppenburg, a victim of random violence. To complete the song, a third verse was added, this verse I wrote just a few months before the #MeToo thing went viral.

Cruise on Out with Me (Henri Grünbauer) ©1989 ℗2017. This Blues-Rock Tune really came about as a Song, I started singing it when I had one of those long Bike-Journeys in the late 80's. I included some pictures of Jan Ensink (drums) and Dirk van Burken (Bass), that is because I hope they have found each other in Heaven and that they are jammin' together there. This Tune I dedicate to them.

Sound Advice - Weird World (van Basten) ©1997. This song Hans wrote for Sound Advice and he was singing it himself, but it never got recorded. When Hans had left the band, we did get a new drummer and we also needed new repertoire because we lost our lead singer too. I figured out I could do this song too and I liked it so much that it was even done by the Kerozinekikkers until nearly a decade later.

Borrowed Time - (Henri Grunbauer) ©2017. An all new song! You said You love me and You said don't When we are together it can be a Crime You want me to leave You but Yet I won't 'Cause we are living in Borrowed Time. It is said that I'm learning this that I am Sick What did I deserve I won't feel worth a Dime I'm sure I will overcome Yet I give up 'Cause I am living in Borrowed Time. Now when I am gone it don't matter anymore 'Cause we're living on like in a rhyme The tears we will forget and the smiles be remembered cause we're living in Borrowed time.

Second Coming (Alice Cooper cover) 1971. Second Coming is a song from the original Alice Cooper Band's album 'Love it to Death' It precedes 'Ballad of Dwight Free'. The Lyric seems to be about the Second Coming of Christ (or somebody who thinks he is Christ) an his observations of false Prophecy going on. The Video is edited in a way the instrumental parts are easy to follow in case You want to play the Guitar-part. Generally it is a one-take recording with the exception of a few additional bass notes along the bended notes in the Guitar-part. When I tried to play hem simultaneously, the extra tension caused by the bending resulted in de bass-notes dropping a quarter step in pitch, so I couldn't do that.

Talking for Days (Henri Grünbauer) ©1997 ℗2017. This lyric might need a little explanation for the younger generations. What is an 'Answering Machine'? In the '80s and early '90s Telephones were still cable-driven fixed devices in people's home. If You could afford it however, analog 'voicemail' was available via a tape operated (compact-cassette) system. These were called 'Answering Machines' If You were losing your Love and tried to get in Phone-contact, these machines with pre-recorded voice were just about as cruel all todays Voicemail!

Maybe there's a Way (Henri Grünbauer) ©1991 ℗2017. I wrote this song when I had plans to start up my band Sound Advice in the early '90s. The Bass-part was especially written for my student Lenne who appeared on the original recording. In this acoustic version the Spanish Guitar-part hints to the bass-part during the instrumental passages. The song wasn't on the repertoire for more than a few Years when it was replaced by "One of a Kind'. I picked it up for the acoustic repertoire recently.
