21 years! First picked up the guitar at 7 and learned a few chords. Was still way into sports at the time. By 8 or 9, after my dad gave me a cassette with Van Halen and Metallica, guitar became everything to me and I knew from then on what I wanted to do! My father is a musician and I would watch him play when I was very young, 4 or so. Very musical family.
What was the first concert you ever went to?
G3 2001- Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and John Petrucci from Dream Theater! All three of them were incredible and still inspire me and motivate me to get better every day!
What gear do you use?
Ibanez guitars, Gibson guitars, Marshall amps, Ibanez tubescreamer, Steve Vai Bad Horsie Wah pedal, D'Addarrio/ Planet Waves strings, picks and straps.
Who was your biggest musical influence growing up?
Too many to list. Eddie Van Halen, Kirk Hammett from Metallica were the first two, then Joe Satriani completely blew me away. I was just a kid when my dad showed me his "Surfing With The Alien" hit record. I listened to it and had the cover with the silver surfer on it and I literally thought this was an alien from outer space playing guitar! I didn't know what Joe looked like at the time, I just had the front cover and hearing "Surfing With The Alien" etc. knocked me out!
Are you in a band? Have you been in bands?
I gig with a working band called ESR and do 120 plus shows a year. Very busy, plus I teach Mon- Thursday and I'm finishing my second album! ESR plays blues, 70's, 80's and 90's rock and some funk also!
If you could jam with anyone, who would it be?
Too many to list!!!
What's the biggest audience you ever performed to? What's the smallest?
Probably this past March during Daytona Bike Week 2014 at Main Street Station! We played in the front on the strip and it was like "where's Waldo???" There were hundreds of people watching us. That gig made up for some very negative things that I was going through prior! It was very rewarding and another time where I felt that all those years of hard practice on the guitar paid off! The crowd went crazy on my guitar solos and I got more recognition that night than ever!
You're stuck on a desert island and only get to bring one album with you. What do you pick?
Yikes....I'm going to have to think this one over. I'm too eclectic!
